Equine assisted learning with disadvantaged children

Working with Stars Learning Limited and Turn About Pegasus this short-term project facilitated confidence building and the development of personal and social skills with ‘looked after’ children in the North East.

This was achieved through the use of the farm environment as a learning resource together with equine assisted learning. As part of a collaborative team, Emma was involved in the planning and delivery of learning opportunities in the outdoor rural and farm environment that focussed on facilitating personal, social and educational development.

In addition, equine assisted learning was used to enable these young people to explore and develop independence as well as their social relationships and communication skills.

This project opened up opportunities for young people with significant social, behavioural and learning challenges to experience the benefits to health, well-being and personal growth that can be realised through interaction with animals and the rural and farm environment.
